Sorry for the lack of blogging yesterday everyone. We were very tired when we got back to the hotel last night and weren’t able to stay up to blog so we’re going to catch up right now.
Day 2 of Katie and Matt do Canada
On Monday morning we got up around 7 for what we thought would be a rather short and uneventful trip to Ottawa. We thought we’d hit some of the traffic in Montreal but other than that we thought it would a pretty good day. Boy were we wrong. It started first by us getting a little lost trying to get out of Riviere du Loup and then we had difficulty finding a gas station so all in all we were running behind by an hour.
The rest of the morning didn’t go as planned as well. The kitty (even though he wasn’t in the cage) cried for about 3 hours until we stopped for lunch. After lunch he found our cooler and pushed it open and climbed in. He was happy for the rest of the trip.
Some other problems we had were that the roads in Quebec were horrible and the drivers were terrible.
Here are some pictures from the first part of the morning.
Around 2 we were driving into Montreal and our GPS told us that there was traffic up ahead so it was re-calculating a new route for us. This new route ended up taking us through downtown Montreal and under the city going about 100 km/hr under the city in the tunnel.
Just after leaving Montreal we hit the Quebec/Ontario border.
We hit Ottawa around 4:30, showered, changed and walked down to the parliament buildings to try and make a tour. The tour took about and hour and was very cool. We took some pretty cool pics. We’ll just share a few here but we have lots more if anyone is interested.
We also got some beautiful shots of the city.
After all the walking around we headed out for dinner. We stopped at a Scottish pub and got some yummy food. By the time we got back to the hotel we were exhausted and just headed to bed. Overall, it started out as a pretty long day but it turned out great in the end.
Day 3 of Katie and Matt do Canada
As some of you may know day 3 started out with great intentions. We got up very early in order to get an early start. Unfortunately as soon as we got in the car we knew something was wrong with the brakes. We stopped at the closest repair shop – Speedy – and waited 3 hours to get new rear brakes. To add insult to injury, one of the callipers was seized and had to be replaced as well.
This didn’t put us on the road until after 10 and we knew we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us on a very hot day. We planned ahead this time and bought some ice for the cooler so Charlie had a place to stay cool and be happy.
Since we were leaving from Ottawa and heading to Sault Ste. Marie we were driving through central Ontario. It was a long, painful and very hot day. The majority of the highways were not divided and there were many people travelling very slow. We did encounter some beautiful scenery though.
Here are some of the pictures.
After a very hot and sticky day we made it to Sault Ste. Marie and are now just relaxing in the hotel room before we have to get up early again tomorrow for our drive to Thunder Bay.
Stay tuned for our update tomorrow.
Love,
k&m
